The novel coronavirus causing COVID-19 has triggered a global health and economic crisis that touches nearly every aspect of our lives and those of our clients, and it will implicate insurance at multiple junctures. Companies of all sizes need to know whether their business interruption coverage will apply to the virus’s presence and government-mandated shutdowns. It also is likely that many coronavirus-related civil claims will be filed, at which point, both plaintiffs and defendants will need insurance companies to pay. In this timely CLE, Gabriel Le Chevallier and Kevin Sasse of Parsons Farnell & Grein LLP’s insurance recovery group will discuss the coverages and exclusions implicated by coronavirus-related losses under first-party property policies, which often provide business interruption coverage, and other potentially applicable policies. They will also discuss insurance-related considerations for the lawsuits and bankruptcies that are likely to follow.
