The Mary Leonard Chapter (MLC) of OWLS and the State of Oregon Law Library (SOLL) are proud to welcome Ron Silver, retired Assistant U.S. Attorney and master storyteller, to give a presentation entitled "Stories and Lessons from the Civil Rights Movement," including the the story of the Scottsboro Boys and associated court cases, Powell v. Alabama and Norris v. Alabama. Ron Silver retired after 33 years with the U.S. Attorneys Office. During his career, he handled many civil rights cases. He has taught the history of the Civil Rights Movement in Oregon and Washington schools and in many federal agencies. Mr. Silver led student groups to Mississippi and Alabama to study the movement firsthand. He is a member of the Northwest Community Gospel Choir and the Northwest Freedom Singers. 1.0 Access to Justice CLE credit will be sought.
